Scanpan Impact is a stainless steel range built for everyday cooking, and it's the biggest Scanpan range we stock, from fry pans and saucepans to stockpots, roasters, tagines and chafing sets. This guide explains what makes Impact different and which pieces to start with, using Scanpan's own product information. Browse the full Scanpan collection.
What makes Scanpan Impact different?
- The impact-bonded base. Scanpan describes Impact's thick base as a disk of aluminium enveloped between two layers of high-quality stainless steel, designed for heat transfer and retention. The 20cm fry pan, for example, has a 6.4mm bonded base.
- 18/10 stainless steel. Scanpan uses high-quality 18/10 stainless steel.
- Cast stainless steel handles. They're fixed with heavy-duty rivets and designed to stay cooler for longer.
- Tempered glass lids let you check on food without lifting the lid.
- Practical details: a drip-free pouring rim and internal capacity markings for measuring.
- Induction-ready. Scanpan says Impact is suitable for all cooktops including induction.
What to buy first
Scanpan suggests starting with the shape and size you use most. For most kitchens, that's a fry pan and a saucepan.
Fry pans
Impact fry pans come in sizes from 18cm to 32cm. A 24cm or 26cm pan suits everyday meals for one to two people, while 28cm and above suits families. Shop the 24cm, 26cm, 28cm and 32cm fry pans, or the 20cm and 28cm fry pan set.
Saucepans
Shop the 14cm (1.2L), 16cm (1.8L) and 18cm saucepans, or the 16cm and 20cm saucepan set.
Scanpan's favourite pieces
Scanpan highlights the chef pan, deep sauté pan and roasting pan as especially useful. In Impact, try the 32cm chef pan, 28cm sauté pan and roaster with rack.
The wider Impact range
- Dutch ovens: 20cm, 22cm (4.5L) and 24cm.
- Stockpots: 24cm, 26cm (11L) and 30cm (15L).
- Woks: the 32cm covered wok and 36cm covered wok.
- Specialty pieces: the 28cm tagine, egg poacher set, multi steamer insert and chafing set.
Should I buy an Impact set?
If you're replacing several pieces at once, a set can be a simple way to get matching cookware. We stock Impact sets from the 5-piece starter set up to the 10-piece set. Compare them in our Scanpan cookware sets guide.
Using and caring for Impact
- Oven: Scanpan lists the Impact fry pan as oven safe to 220°C/250°C with or without the lid. Check each product's listing for its limit.
- Dishwasher: Scanpan says Impact is dishwasher safe, but recommends hand washing to extend its life.
- Discolouration: heat can discolour stainless steel. Scanpan suggests a stainless steel cleaner, Barkeepers Friend, Bon Ami or a baking soda paste.
- Avoid aerosol cooking sprays, which Scanpan says leave hard-to-remove residue.
Warranty
Scanpan covers its stainless steel cookware with a 10-year warranty against manufacturing defects.
