Non-stick or stainless steel?

Scanpan's ranges fall into two families:

  • Non-stick ranges use Scanpan's own Stratanium or Stratanium+ coatings. Scanpan says all of its non-stick cookware is made in Denmark, and that its non-stick is safe to use with metal utensils.
  • Stainless steel ranges use bonded or multi-layer bases for even heat. Scanpan says its stainless cookware is designed in Denmark and made to the same specifications at the SCANPAN Asia factory.

Not sure which suits you? Our non-stick guide and stainless steel guide go into more detail.

Scanpan non-stick ranges

Classic

Scanpan's original non-stick range. Scanpan says Classic is ideal for gas and ceramic cooktops but is not suitable for induction. Shop pieces such as the Classic 26cm fry pan and Classic 32cm wok.

Classic Induction

The induction-ready version of Classic. Scanpan describes it as having its Stratanium non-stick coating, being suitable for all heat sources including induction, oven safe to 250°C and made in Denmark, with 100% recycled aluminium used in its squeeze-cast construction. Try the Classic Induction 26cm fry pan or the 32cm chef pan.

HaptIQ

One of Scanpan's core ranges, with a Stratanium+ surface designed for searing. Shop the HaptIQ 26cm fry pan and 26cm Dutch oven.

TechnIQ

Stratanium+ non-stick, suitable for all hob types including induction, and oven safe to 250°C according to Scanpan. TechnIQ is also squeeze-cast from 100% recycled aluminium. Shop the TechnIQ 30cm wok and 28cm square roaster.

CS+

Another Stratanium+ range, which Scanpan highlights for searing and browning. Shop the CS+ 24cm fry pan and 32cm chef pan.

Scanpan stainless steel ranges

Impact

Our biggest Scanpan range. Impact has a thick impact-bonded base with an aluminium disk between two layers of stainless steel, cast stainless handles and tempered glass lids. Read our Scanpan Impact guide.

STS

Premium-grade 304 stainless steel with an impact-bonded sandwich base and an aluminium core. Scanpan says the completely flat base gives strong contact on induction. Shop the STS 26cm fry pan.

Clad 5

Five-layer stainless steel construction for rapid, even heat, with 18/10 stainless steel interiors. Scanpan lists it as suitable for all cooktops including induction and ovenproof to 200°C. Shop the Clad 5 26cm fry pan.

Coppernox

Mirror-polished 18/10 stainless steel with an impact-bonded base containing a copper wedge between two layers of aluminium. Shop the Coppernox 26cm fry pan.

Axis

A five-layer construction with a heavy-duty stainless steel body, a copper core and distinctive copper bands. Scanpan lists it as induction-compatible and ovenproof to 200°C. Shop the Axis 26cm fry pan.

Which range is best?

Scanpan's own answer is that it depends on what you prefer in feel, looks and performance. A few pointers:

  • Want easy release and quick clean-up? Choose a non-stick range. For induction, choose Classic Induction, TechnIQ or another induction-ready range rather than the original Classic.
  • Love to sear? Scanpan designed Stratanium+ (TechnIQ, CS+ and HaptIQ) for searing and browning.
  • Want stainless steel that lasts? Impact and STS are hard-working everyday ranges, while Clad 5, Coppernox and Axis offer multi-layer and copper constructions.

Scanpan also suggests starting with the shape and size you use most. It highlights the chef pan, deep sauté pan and roasting pan as especially useful pieces.

Warranty

Scanpan offers a limited lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects on its non-stick cookware, and a 10-year warranty on stainless steel. Damage from residue build-up, aerosol cooking sprays or accidents such as dropping isn't covered.
