Mason Cash In the Forest turns everyday bakeware into something you'll want to leave out on the bench. Every piece is embossed with woodland scenes inspired by folk tales of the mid-19th century, and each mixing bowl size has its own animal: hedgehogs, a bear, owls and a fox. Here's a guide to the whole family and how the pieces fit together. Browse it all in our Mason Cash collection.
Meet the animals
The In the Forest mixing bowls use the classic Mason Cash shape, with a raised exterior and rim that help you grip and tip the bowl, but swap the traditional diamond pattern for detailed woodland embossing. Each bowl is finished with a high-gloss, chip-resistant glaze. A handy way to remember the sizes is that the animals get bigger as the bowls do.
Hedgehog: 21cm
The smallest bowl features hedgehogs and is described as perfect for pudding and cookie dough mixes. It's also a lovely size for little bakers. Choose Hedgehog Green or Hedgehog Red.
Bear: 24cm
The bear bowl is an everyday workhorse for bread, cake, cookie, pastry and pudding mixes. It comes in the traditional Cane colour or a warm Ochre.
Owl: 26cm
Owls in a woodland scene decorate the 26cm bowl, a great size for cake mixes. Pick the soft Owl Stone or the deeper Owl Green.
Fox: 29cm
The largest In the Forest bowl features a fox and is made for bread, cake, cookie, pastry and pudding mixes, with room to spare. Available in Fox Cream and Fox Grey.
For capacities and help choosing between sizes, see our Mason Cash mixing bowl size guide.
More from the forest
The woodland theme continues across a range of baking and serving pieces.
- Owl Cream Batter Bowl: a 2 litre batter bowl with a handle and pouring lip, for pancakes, crepes and runny cake mixes. Compare it with other designs in our batter bowl guide.
- Fox Cream Pudding Basin 16cm: a protruding rim lets you tie on a cover for steaming, and the vented base lets bubbles escape so the basin doesn't tip in the pan. Read our pudding basin guide before Christmas.
- Fox Stone Measuring Jug 1L: made from chip-resistant stoneware, with internal markings in millilitres and fluid ounces.
- Forest Cream Teapot: a charming centrepiece for morning tea.
- Forest Cream Serving Platter 30cm: for slices, scones, cheese or a roast.
Why bakers love In the Forest
It's practical
Underneath the decoration, these are proper Mason Cash bowls designed for real baking. The embossing gives grip, the rim helps you tip and scrape, and the larger sizes have room for kneading.
It's easy to build a set
Because each animal matches a size, you can collect the range one bowl at a time and it will always look like a set. Mixing colours, say a Cane bear with an Owl Green and a Fox Cream, gives a relaxed, collected look.
It looks good out on the bench
Many people use the bowls for fruit or bread when they're not baking, and the teapot and platter mean the theme can carry through to the table.
Set ideas
- The baker's trio: Fox 29cm, Owl 26cm and Bear 24cm bowls cover nearly every recipe.
- Pancake Sunday: the Owl Cream batter bowl with the Fox Stone measuring jug.
- Christmas baking: the Fox Cream 29cm bowl for mixing the fruit and the Fox Cream pudding basin for steaming.
- Morning tea: the Forest Cream teapot with the 30cm serving platter.
A gift with character
In the Forest is a favourite gift for keen bakers, nature lovers and anyone setting up a first kitchen. A hedgehog bowl is a sweet present for a child who loves to help in the kitchen, while the fox bowl and pudding basin make a generous Christmas gift.
